Former President's Tariffs Affect High-End Tea Product Exports to the United States, Says Retail Executive

The top official of a renowned London-based store revealed that current American tariff rules have hurt international sales of high-quality tea products to US-based buyers.

Tighter Country-of-Origin Regulations and Duty Shifts

As stated by the CEO, American import authorities now mandate that tea items containing ingredients from India must be classified as originating from those nations, making them liable to hefty duties.

Moreover, the removal of the low-value exception for packages priced under $800 has further disrupted international orders and raised expenses for customers.

Pricing Hikes and Buyer Worries

For example, a 250g container of premium blend that previously sold for around $28 now requires shipping fees beginning from $25+ due to new tax regulations.

This has made customers hesitant about purchasing items from abroad, worried they may face additional bills upon receipt.

Broader Market Pressures

In recent years, broader economic conditions have also contributed to price rises on tea in the UK market, with certain products going up by around forty percent.

International business formerly made up approximately five and a half percent of overall income, highlighting the importance of international trade for the company.

“System-wise, we are perfect, but it just means costs will rise,” stated the chief executive.

The situation is an ongoing concern for retailers involved in cross-border sales.
