19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging season, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately separating with former mentor Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's initial championship since the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after that period of the previous year.

Success also means he has secured 21 titles at twenty-one different events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six championship matches, comprising in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring reactions on court had caused some to question if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial professional title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet saved 4 initial break points in a close third set before the champion secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
