Oliver Forrest asks two fascinating questions: Which player is the highest-scoring player with the initials XG?” and “Which athlete boasts the highest goals and assists among players with the initials GA?”
XG Standouts
Out of the small group of male players globally with the first letters XG, Xenofon Gittas notched 17 scores throughout his professional journey, along with three for Greece Under-21s. However, he cannot match the goal tally of Xhevdet Gela, who scored 44 times across all competitions, featuring the European stage with Finnish sides MyPa and Lahti. Interestingly, in a spell from 2019 to 2022, the forward was competing for a Finnish club while also managing a fourth-tier team located 80km away. Gela returned to manage the club in the first month of this year, though not as a player.
Details on other XG players are limited. Xavier Gil stayed within the Andorran Primera Divisió, while Xabi Garalde made one appearance in the third tier. Xavier García managed to net one time in a World Cup qualifier against the Cayman Islands. Geng Xiaofeng is perhaps the best known footballer with XG, but as a shot-stopper, he did not trouble the goal count.
GA Greats
Regarding players with the initials GA, thousands have played worldwide. However if we narrow it to those who have played in World Cups, two figures rise above. A German forward recorded 183 goals and assists (113 scores, 70 assists) over a lengthy career, though a lot of his final years were spent in lower leagues. But the winner is a Bulgarian legend. Nicknamed the Artist, he scored 150 times in 247 domestic matches and was deadly in continental competition for Levski Sofia. He additionally scored his nation's maiden finals score in 1962 at age 19. He finished with 188 goals before his untimely passing in a vehicle accident at age 28.
Perhaps his best-remembered goal was versus England at the famous stadium in 1968. Starting in his own half, he outran the whole defence before finishing coolly into the bottom corner. Sir Bobby Charlton once reflected, “Players as skilled as him are not created every day.” In 1999, Asparuhov was chosen Bulgaria’s greatest player over Hristo Stoichkov. It's fascinating to ponder how many more scores he might have ended up netting.
In the English top flight, the highest goals and assists among GA players is held by a former Aston Villa star with 108 (74 scores, 34 assists).

Hungary Goal Query
All of the best scorers for the Magyars all ended their careers in the 1900s,” observed Cameron McGlone. “What other national teams don’t have a leading ten goal-getter who has featured in the 21st century?”
A dedicated researcher delivered the answer: not a single one. “I’ve looked through each country's history, I concluded that there are zero other nations lacking a leading ten scorer who played in the 21st century. Three countries – the Southeast Asian side, another Asian team, and Poland – have eight of their top 10 from the previous century.”
For Indonesia, their third-highest goal-getter – Bambang Pamungkas – and fifth-highest player Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto each competed in the 21st century. The Malaysian team's joint-sixth scorer Safee Sali and eighth-highest Safawi Rasid also feature in the modern era.
Poland’s historical top goalscorer is a global superstar, who remains playing and increasing his tally. Another modern player is tied ninth in the list. Some might say that the team of a small island have zero goalscorers in the 2000s – actually, they have never registered at all in their only matches.
Different Kits in the One Match
After a recent query about teams using pieces of multiple different kits in one match, fans provided additional instances.
One supporter writes that in Manchester United's infamous ‘grey shirts’ match against Southampton, they wore grey shirts, white shorts from their primary strip, and white socks from nowhere in particular. They switched to their alternate jersey in the later period, resulting in bits of four separate uniforms.
Another example involved a team now known as Bournemouth in the mid-20th century. Not prepared to swap kits due to a clash, they borrowed blue shirts from Portsmouth and sported them during an FA Cup tie. Apparently it was a good omen as they proceeded to have their best ever cup run.
Chelsea had a rule in the mid-century that away teams could not wear the identical socks. Spurs frequently played at their ground in all white with gold socks.
More recently, a Championship team had to buy Crystal Palace's yellow away kit from the team store after the referee ruled their usual colors not acceptable. They kept their maroon socks, resulting in taunts from the local supporters.
Another reader remembers a 1993 match where Sheffield Wednesday wore a newly designed strip with very dark blue stripes. The opponents had to wear their navy change kit to avoid a clash.
