Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
