The administration has supported its campaign as a successful operation, arguing it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of lawful warfare. Although the administration has stated the operation is about stopping drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide appeared to confirm a wider geopolitical objective. In a recent interview, the senior advisor said the leader “wants to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president cries uncle.” This suggests the series of strikes may be linked to a push to remove Venezuela's sitting leadership.
